New Artist Profile: Kismet Two brothers, one dream. Its that simple. The dream to impact the world with their deep lyrics and emotion filled voices. Brought together by fate and destined to do what they love, they couldn’t have a better name to express themselves than kismet. A word derived from the Arabic term ‘qisma’. The ‘t’ was added by the Persians (Qismat) and then from Turkish it came to English.

12, 2005 Nearly 9,000 people turned up from all over mainland Europe to converge on Genk, Belgium last Saturday 9/4/05 to watch IGMG Youth's annual event where the headline act was our very own SHAAM. Excellent artists from France, Sweden, Germany, England and Iran graced the show which was billed as a celebration of Muslim youth in Europe. With Mahmoud in Dubai, SHAAM performed as a fivesome having drafted in Nasir for backing vocals and Shahid to play the duff. Their 35 minute performance was met with rapturous applause and takbirs throughout as the predominantly Turkish origin crowd displayed their appreciation of nasheeds like ‘Mercy Like The Rain’ and ‘SallAllahu a’la Muhammad’. Alongside such contemporary tracks the group also sang traditional Arabic Mawlid material to mark the fact that the month of Rabi al-Awwal had begun. The group took time to sign autographs and have their photos taken by fans before flying back to the UK. Yasin from the group described the event as 'both a beautiful and humbling experience,' while Imran commented: 'It's hard to believe that in less than 2 weeks we've performed to audiences in excess of 15,000 in total and at some very prestigious venues in Europe.' The IGMG event surprisingly beat the audience figures at UOIF's Le Bourget in Paris, France where Khaleel performed in front of over 8,000 people - mind you their total attendance for the 4-day event (of which the concerts were only a small part) was estimated to have been close to 130,000! April
08, 2005 Not only are 786 a great bunch of guys who enjoy singing nasheeds but they are also extremely generous and kind hearted. We've just received word that they are donating $10,000 to Islamic Relief. Those of you who have their album will remember their visionary words in the CD booklet which spoke of donating to charitable causes. Well, here's the official press release: DETROIT-BASED MUSLIM MUSIC GROUP, 786, DONATES $10,000 TO ISLAMIC RELIEF USA FOR VICTIMS OF THE TSUNAMIS BURBANK, California (April 8, 2005) - Detroit-based Muslim music group, 786, announced today that it will donate $10,000 to Islamic Relief USA to assist in its tsunami relief efforts in Southeast Asia. The tragic earthquake and tsunami that hit the region on December 26, 2004 has left over 220,000 people dead, many others homeless, and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes. Islamic Relief USA has been assisting the survivors and displaced populations in the three worst affected countries - Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India. The $10,000 donation from 786 comes from its worldwide performance and album earnings since the release of their self-titled album "786" through Meem Music in June 2004. In making the donation, the band – Shahaab Quraishi, Omar Razzacki, Zafar Razzacki, Muhammad Saadullah and Muhammad Saeedullah - will be realizing one of its founding goals. Since its inception in 2002, 786 has been working to raise money to benefit those who are less fortunate and in need of help. According to 786 co-founder and member Omar Razzacki, the band’s efforts will not be stopping here: "We will continue to work to forge alliances with charitable organizations and other institutions helping the needy throughout the world. It's not just charity to us; it's our responsibility." Working with such groups as 786, Islamic Relief USA has received record donations during the tsunami crisis. Over $12 million in cash and in in-kind donations has been collected by Islamic Relief USA for victims of the tsunamis. Islamic Relief Worldwide is building lasting infrastructure in the tsunami affected areas, including rebuilding homes and setting up education and healthcare infrastructure for the victims. Our reconstruction and development projects are scheduled to operate at least until 2007. - END - Well done guys, and may Allah SWT reward your charitable giving. April
08, 2005 Wow! Were you there at Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall or St. George's Hall? Did you see 786 in their black kurtas and jeans with Palestinian scarves wrapped around their necks (new fashion trend or what?) singing 'Palestine' and the classic Sabri bros. qawwali 'Tajdare Haram'? How about SHAAM in their pure white thobes? Then there was 786 Act 2 along with wardrobe change: Kurtas replaced by shirt, jacket and tie as they gave thousands a great live version of 'Du'a' complete with circus intro (those who were there know what that was ;)) followed up by the crowd favourite 'Nasheed Medley'. Birmingham even got a rendition of 'Dosti' from their forthcoming album due out in the Autumn. SHAAM were serene to 786's energetic; each complementing the other well and giving us the traditional genre of nasheeds side-by-side with the contemporary. Both groups displayed their mastery of English, Urdu and Arabic nasheeds. Classics such as 'Mercy Like The Rain' were there along with 'Jashne Aamede Rasool' together with a special acappella version of their hit song 'Our Children, Our Future' - an appropriate reminder that these concerts served also to remind us of the plight of orphans around the world. In all over £250,000 (nearly $500,000) was raised by Islamic Relief. The Evening of Inspiration concerts were organised by Islamic Relief UK and also featured other great acts including Dawud Wharnsby and the Fletcher Valve Drummers; Mesud Kurtis; Imad Rami; Napoleon; Abid Baig together with comedy from the irrepressible Azhar Usman.
