is a voice-only album in praise of the Last Prophet, Muhammad (SAW)
It aims at continuing the tradition of Islamic nasheeds (defined as
spiritually uplifting songs) that entertain as well as educate. The
artist, Inayet Petker, was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and after nearly
a decade in the US settled in Pretoria, South Africa, where he resides
with his family. He has an endearing, sweet style of singing, incorporating
traditional Indo-Pak vocals, Yemeni raag and accompanies some of his
singing with “vocal percussion” to good effect that gives
people who are used to the beats of modern music something “familiar”.
By putting English lyrics to classic Urdu and Arabic material he aspires
to make the nasheeds applicable to his and younger generations while
paying homage to those before. Those of us brought up in the west are
often cut off from our religious and cultural traditions; it is the
works of individuals like Inayet that seek to re-connect us to our rich
and splendid heritage."

Spring
Has Come evokes the coming of Rabi al-Awwal and most of the nasheeds
have the Blessed Prophet (SAW) as their theme; some directly such as
the Urdu classics Makki Madani and Hazoor
Agaey Hein, while others like the title track Spring has Come
allude to him and his mission. All four English songs were written by
the group and each is layered with fantastic harmonies and rhythmic
drum patterns - the hallmark of SHAAM. Signs in particular
is both catchy and deceptively profound. Subhan Allah has an
infectious beat, while the words outline the five pillars of Islam -
children will find it particularly enjoyable and educational. SallAllahu
a'la Muhammad takes a classic Arabic nasheed and transforms it
into a great, rousing English song. The Arabic tracks Antum Muradi
and especially Salawaat meanwhile serve to remind the
listener how effortlessly SHAAM can switch between languages and between
traditional and contemporary styles of rendition.

and Arabic and ranges in musical style from classic Qawwali in the awe
inspiring 'Tajdar-E-Haram' to the contemporary R&B manner of 'Heaven's
Key's'. The US Version is full instrumentation and voice, and,
as a bonus, features a
bonus song, 'Eid Mubarak'.
